Namibians are of diverse ethnic origins. Over 50% of the population belong to the Ovambo tribe and 9% to the Kavangos tribe. Other ethnic groups include
Herero 7%, Damara 7%, Nama 5%, Caprivian 4%, Bushmen 3%, Baster 2%, Tswana 0.5%.

The modern mining, farming and industrial sectors of the economy have affected traditional African society with out transforming it. Urban and migratory
workers have adopted Western ways. In rural areas though traditional societies have remained in tact. Missionary work during the 1800's drew many Namibians to Christianity.
